What are Scars?
When our skin is affected by a wound, infection, cut, or trauma, the skin is damaged and attempts to heal itself. New collagen fibers form and can result in a scar. The scar typically has a different appearance, texture, or colour than the surrounding skin tissue.
Symptoms of Scarring
We see patients with a broad variety of scars. Some scars are the result of an accident, surgery, or a wound. You may have scars that are the result of past skin conditions like cystic acne or skin damage. Acne scars can be depressed (atrophic) or raised on the skin’s surface (hypertrophic).
